Woolworths Group Limited ABN 88 000 014 675 (Woolworths), The Hollard Insurance Company Pty Ltd ABN 78 090 584 473 (Hollard) and Greenstone Financial Services Pty Ltd ABN 53 128 692 884 (GFS), (each a Recipient), are subject to the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988. The Recipients issue this Collection Notice jointly.

About this Collection Notice

This Collection Notice is in relation to Woolworths Insurance products. The Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) for each Woolworths Insurance product contains terms and conditions regarding your privacy. Because those terms and conditions provide for certain consents, if you apply for a Woolworths Insurance product, you consent to the use of your personal information in the manner stated within the relevant PDS and this will impact how the Recipients use and disclose your personal information. You can view the relevant Product Disclosure Statement online at insurance.woolworths.com.au or obtain a copy by contacting Woolworths on 1300 10 1234. This Collection Notice should be read together with the relevant Product Disclosure Statement for your Woolworths Insurance product.

How and for what purpose is your personal information collected or disclosed?

In connection with your Woolworths Insurance product:

  • personal information may be collected directly from prospective and current policyholders and insureds, or, where that is not reasonably practical, from other sources, such as: service providers, distributors, authorised representatives, another party involved in a claim, your authorised persons who deal with us on your behalf, data partners and any other organisation or person where you have consented to them providing your personal information to us or consented to us obtaining personal information from them;
  • personal information is collected for processing insurance applications, preparing insurance quotes, administering Policies, assessing and paying claims under Policies, and performing administrative operations (including, for example; accounting, risk management and staff training);
  • Woolworths and those with whom Woolworths has alliance and service arrangements may use personal information for the purposes of planning, researching, developing and identifying products and services that may interest you and (unless you request us not to) telling you about products and services offered by Woolworths, its related bodies corporate and alliance arrangements;
  • Woolworths may use your personal information (but not sensitive information) to link any other Woolworths products or services, such as an Everyday Rewards card, to your Woolworths Insurance product;
  • personal information may be disclosed to third parties in connection with the above purposes, including to reinsurers, related companies, advisers, persons involved in claims, home assessors (for Home Insurance), medical and emergency repatriation service providers (for Travel Insurance), veterinary service providers (for Pet Insurance), external claims data collectors and verifiers, our employees, agents and other persons where required by law.


Overseas disclosures

Woolworths may disclose your personal information to related companies located in New Zealand and service providers located in Japan. 

Hollard may disclose your information to its service providers located in the Philippines, France, Germany, Canada or Bulgaria. These details can change from time to time and you should contact us for further details to see if this applies to you. Otherwise Hollard and GFS are unlikely to disclose your information outside of Australia.

Consequences of non-disclosure

If you do not provide your information in whole or in part we may not be able to provide the services you require, or it may affect the outcome of any claim you submit.

The Recipients issue this Collection Notice with respect to Woolworths Life Insurance policies jointly.

We collect personal information (including sensitive information (as defined in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth)) for the purpose of processing insurance applications, administering your insurance policy, responding to your enquiries and assessing and paying claims under your insurance policy. Where possible, we collect personal information directly from you or, where that is not reasonably practicable, from other sources. 

We may also use your personal information to consider any other application you may make to us, designing or underwriting new insurance products, for fraud detection purposes, for research and analytical purposes, to perform administrative functions (including for example accounting, risk management, staff training, etc.), and to comply with our legal obligations. 

If you do not provide this information in whole or in part, we may not be able to provide the services you require, or you may be deemed to not have complied with your duty of disclosure, which could affect the outcome of any claim.

We may disclose your personal information to:

  • our related companies who assist us in providing our products and services;
  • agents and third-parties (including Woolworths and GFS) who assist us in processing applications for, handling claims under and administering insurance products, including but not limited to lawyers and other advisors, medical service providers, external claims data collectors, investigators and verifiers, and your employer;
  • our reinsurers, brokers and other intermediaries;
  • third party service providers who perform functions or services on our behalf, such as IT services and mailing functions;
  • within Woolworths Group for planning, researching, developing, identifying and notifying you of products and services which may be of interest to you; 
  • where otherwise required by law.

Some of the companies we may disclose your personal information to may be located overseas, including in Hong Kong, China, India, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and Switzerland.

CTP Insurance Collection Notice
 

Who do we work with?

Woolworths Insurance is a registered business name of Woolworths Group Limited (ABN 88 000 014 675) (Woolworths). When we make references such as “we”, “us” or “our” in this notice, we mean Woolworths Insurance.

We work with QBE Insurance (Australia) Limited (ABN 78 003 191 035) (QBE) to bring you compulsory third party (CTP) insurance products.

Our CTP insurance is issued by QBE. This means they are the insurance providers and will be providing certain insurance related services in connection with your CTP and reviewing any claims you might make on your CTP insurance policy.

Woolworths acts as an agent of QBE in providing you with your CTP insurance.


What personal information do we collect?

In the course of providing you with CTP insurance products, we collect your personal information such as your name, contact details (e.g. residential address, phone number and email address), date of birth and car registration details.


Why do we collect personal information?

First and foremost, Woolworths Insurance collects your personal information to provide and improve our customer service.

We may also use your personal information to:

  • link your policy to your Everyday Rewards account for additional offers and benefits if you provide us with your Everyday Rewards number;
  • investigate and respond to your enquiries and complaints;
  • record your feedback and product reviews, and potentially publish your feedback and product reviews only with your permission;
  • improve our business generally, including by monitoring or recording our interactions with you for training purposes; 
  • plan, research and develop existing and new products;
  • manage risks; and 
  • monitor for cases of potential fraud and conduct relevant investigations.
     

We may collect personal information for other purposes which are within your reasonable expectation or permitted by law.

If we do not collect your personal information, you may not be able to obtain CTP insurance products through Woolworths Insurance.


How do we collect personal information?

We collect personal information from people and organisations whom you have authorised to share personal information with us (including from QBE), or from you only if you make direct contact with us.

Where appropriate, we may collect personal information about you from other sources, including your authorised representatives (such as a person authorised by you through a power of attorney).

Who do we share your personal information with?

In the course of carrying out the activities outlined above, Woolworths may need to share some of your personal information with other parties. These may include:

  • Within the Woolworths group for instance when we link your policy to your Everyday Rewards account;
  • Insurance and distribution parties including QBE (the insurer of your CTP insurance product); and
  • Governmental bodies, regulators, law enforcement agencies and other persons where required or permitted by law.
     

Computing and commerce are globalised and consequently we may sometimes need to share personal information overseas, for instance when using cloud computing services.  QBE (the insurer of your CTP insurance product) operates internationally.
