How does Everyday Drive Less Pay Less work?

step one

Get a quote

Get a quote online or call us on 1300 10 1234 and tell us how many kilometres you plan to drive each year. We'll let you know if you qualify and provide you with a quote.

step two

Tell us your start odometer reading

Next, you will need to provide the start odometer reading of your car at the start of the policy. Your end odometer reading is calculated by adding the amount of kilometres you plan to drive to the start odometer reading that you have disclosed.

step three

Apply to top up your kilometres if you need

If you find yourself coming close to your end odometer reading, you can apply for an increase at any time online or over the phone, subject to conditions and additional premiums. See our PDS for more details.

Note: If you make a claim at a time when you’re outside the end odometer reading shown on your Certificate of Insurance, then you may need to pay the basic excess, an Outside Odometer Excess and any other applicable excesses at the time of a claim.

Frequently asked questions

Am I eligible for Everyday Drive Less Pay Less?

When you get a quote for Drive Less Pay Less cover, we'll ask you how many kilometres on average you drive each year. If you don’t drive much, we’ll offer you this cover option – so you’re only paying for the kilometres you plan to use.

What is the Drive Less Pay Less cover?

Drive Less Pay Less is unique a concept in car insurance. Designed specifically for cars that are driven 15,000km per year or less, it offers all the benefits of Comprehensive insurance, but you only pay for the kilometres you plan to drive.

Here's a summary of how it works:

  • When you buy a Drive Less Pay Less policy, you nominate the number of kilometres you plan to drive each year (up to 15,000km) and tell us your car’s odometer reading at the start of the policy.
  • We add these together to calculate your End Odometer reading, which will be shown on your Certificate of Insurance.
  • We calculate your premium based in part on the number of kilometres you tell us you plan to drive.

At the time of a claim, if your car's odometer reading at the time of the incident is more than your Start Odometer reading and less than the End Odometer reading shown of your Certificate of Insurance, you get the same cover as you would with our Comprehensive insurance. If not, you still have the same cover, except you also pay the Outside Odometer excess ($1000). This is in addition to any other excesses which apply to the claim.

In some cases, no excess is payable. At each renewal, we increase your End Odometer reading by the number of kilometres you told us you planned to drive each year. You can also ask us adjust your End Odometer reading at any time. However, your end odometer reading cannot be more than 15,000km higher than your Start Odometer reading (for new policies) or your End Odometer reading immediately before your last renewal (for renewed policies).

To increase your End Odometer reading, login to My Insurance Portal, click on ‘View Policy details’, and click on ‘Need more kms?' or give us a call on 1300 641 327 during our operating hours.

See our PDS for more details.

How do I renew my Car Insurance policy?

If we offer renewal, the policy will automatically renew as per the renewal notice. We will send you this renewal notice at least 14 days before your renewal date which will outline what you need to do to stay covered. You should check your renewal notice carefully and contact us on 1300 10 1234 if you need to make any changes to your policy or details, or if you'd like to opt out of automatic renewal.

With automatic renewal, your renewal notice will set out the proposed new policy terms and premium. If no changes are required to your policy and your premium payments are up to date, you don’t need to do anything – your policy will automatically renew.

If you opted out of automatic renewal, your renewal notice will advise you to call to continue your cover. We will provide you with a quote and policy terms. If you’re happy to proceed, we will renew your policy.

To find out more about your renewal dates, you can Chat Now.

What is the start odometer reading?

Your car’s odometer reading you provide when you first take out the Drive Less Pay Less Drive cover. This reading will be shown on your Certificate of Insurance in your first period of insurance.

What is the end odometer reading?

The end odometer reading indicates the maximum odometer reading for your car during the period of insurance and will be shown on your Certificate of Insurance.

At the time of a claim, if your car has exceeded the end odometer reading, you will need to pay an Outside odometer excess, as well as any other excesses applicable. There are some claims for which an excess does not apply.

See our PDS for more details.

How do I update my end odometer reading?

If you have a Drive Less Pay Less policy, you may be able to increase your end odometer reading online via My Insurance Portal.

To increase your end odometer reading, login to My Insurance Portal, click on ‘View Policy details’ for your desired Car policy OR click on ‘Need more kms?’ on your current odometer reading.

There might be some instances where your end odometer reading cannot be increased. If this is the case, or to decrease your end odometer reading, please contact us.

Your end odometer reading increases at each renewal, based on how far you estimated the car will be driven each year. To decrease your end odometer reading, please contact us.

See our PDS for more details, or please give us a call on 1300 10 1234 during our operating hours.
