Does Woolworths Life Insurance cover me for COVID-19?

From juggling working from home with kids or staying at home more and enjoying a slower pace, everyone’s life has changed in some way due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Some of us may be worried about the health and safety of ourselves and those close to us. Particularly if they’re older, have medical conditions or work on the front line in essential services, like healthcare workers.

Regardless of your situation, it’s good to understand your life insurance cover.

Does my life insurance cover me for COVID-19?

The last thing we want you to worry about is whether your Woolworths Life Insurance policy covers you for COVID-19. We want to reassure you that none of our Woolworths Life Insurance policies has a specific exclusion for a pandemic, such as COVID-19. This means if you are an existing customer you are covered regardless of whether or not you have COVID-19.

What about funeral insurance?

If you have Woolworths Funeral Insurance, you're covered, as long as you've had your policy for more than 12 months. For the first 12 months of funeral cover, you're only insured for accidental death or accidental serious injury so any illness, such as COVID-19, won't be covered. 

Can I apply for a new life insurance policy? Am I covered for COVID-19?

For new customers, our underwriting procedures remain the same, and all you have to do is answer all our health and lifestyle questions honestly. In line with current underwriting processes, if you have been diagnosed with COVID-19 or currently have symptoms of COVID-19 and are intending to seek medical advice or consultation with a doctor or other health professional, we will not be able to offer you cover until you have fully recovered and are in good health.

Can I increase my existing cover?

Yes, you can. The same as applying for a new policy, you have to answer all our health and lifestyle questions honestly. Otherwise, this might result in us not being able to pay any claim in the future. If you have been diagnosed with COVID-19 or currently have symptoms of COVID-19 and are seeking medical advice or consultation with a doctor or other health professional, we will not be able to offer you increased cover until you have fully recovered and are medically cleared to not have COVID-19.

What if I can't afford to pay my premiums at the moment?

We understand that different life events and unexpected situations can result in financial stress. What if I need to make a claim?

If you need to make a claim, please contact our claims team on 1300 361 698 between 8am-8pm (AEST/AEDT) Monday to Friday (except public holidays), or write to our Claim Services, Woolworths Life/Funeral Insurance, Reply Paid 6728, Baulkham Hills NSW 2153.
