A good travel app can turn a good holiday into a great one, helping you to save time, effort and money – from booking accommodation, to creating a customised travel itinerary and even navigating the beaches of Bali.

We’ve rounded up three free travel apps for you to download before your next trip to help you get into a holiday mood.

TripIt

Think of TripIt as your personal ‘pocket travel agent’. You do the booking and TripIt takes care of the rest. Just forward your confirmation emails for flights, hotels, rental cars, and even restaurant bookings and TripIt will convert it into a single itinerary.  And, if you’re travelling with others, the app allows you to share your plans with group members.

Features of TripIt:

  • Add or edit plans manually
  • Sync travel plans with your calendar
  • Store travel documents in one place
  • View your itinerary any time and on any device – even when you’re offline.
  •

TripAdvisor

You’ve arrived at your destination, but not sure where to eat?

TripAdvisor offers more than 320 million reviews, photos and opinions by travellers for the best places to eat, sleep, and play – whether you’re travelling to the next town, or across the globe.

Features of TripAdvisor:

Hotels, restaurants, and attractions in any destination (by price, popularity, location, type)

  • ‘Near Me Now’ to discover options near you or any address you enter.

    Google Maps

Google Maps is a must have app for any destination seekers – but it really shines on holidays. Not only does it offer detailed maps for 220 countries, but it also detects delays caused by traffic, accidents or construction – and then intuitively offers a quicker route.

Google Maps features:

  • Voice-guided GPS navigation for driving, biking, and walking
  • Transit directions and maps for over 15,000 towns and cities
  • Live traffic conditions
  • Street View and indoor imagery for restaurants, museums and hotels, as well as emergency services and doctors.
