Does your car insurance cover hail damage?

Hail storms can happen all year round, so it’s important to understand if your car insurance covers any damage caused by these storms.

While you might assume that all car insurance policies cover hail damage, that’s not the case. Products like Third Party Property Damage are designed to cover other vehicles or third party property if you accidentally cause damage to them with your car. To help you understand the different cover options that may be suitable for how you use your car, we’ve broken down each Everyday Car Insurance product to show which ones cover hail damage:

What's the difference between Comprehensive and Drive Less Pay Less car insurance?

Drive Less Pay Less is comprehensive cover at a discounted premium, that allows you to pay for the kilometres you plan to drive. So, if you're an eligible driver and you don't drive all the time, this could be the cover for you.

At the beginning of your Drive Less Pay Less policy you will be required to nominate a 'start odometer reading' and how many kilometres you plan to drive during the policy period, which will determine your 'end odometer reading'. You can update your 'end odometer reading' anytime. Find out more about increasing your 'end odometer reading'.

It's important to be aware that your premium may change if you update the 'end odometer reading' - we'll also adjust your premium accordingly. Please note if you make a claim at a time when you’re outside the 'end odometer reading' or under the 'start odometer reading' shown on your Certificate of Insurance, you will need to pay an additional Outside Odometer Reading excess of $1,000.

With Everyday Comprehensive Car Insurance you're covered for unlimited kilometres.

What happens if you have Everyday Comprehensive Car Insurance and your car gets hail damage?

We're here for you if your car gets damaged by hail during a storm. Once the storm has passed and it's safe to inspect your car, check for any hail damage. If your car has been impacted by hail, call our 24/7 Claims Team on 1300 10 1234.

Once you've submitted your claim, your car will need to be assessed by an authorised repairer. In some cases where hail damage has been widespread, we'll have assessment centres in various neighbourhoods where you can make an appointment to have your car assessed.
